About the Strong Neighbourhoods Task Force

The Strong Neighbourhoods Task Force is a much-needed response to the challenges that are weakening our city. A year-long initiative of United Way of Greater Toronto and the City of Toronto - with the support of federal and provincial governments - the Task Force will help build stronger neighbourhoods. It responds to the Toronto City Summit Alliance's 2003 report, Enough Talk that recommends funding and services for Toronto neighbourhoods. It also builds on the work of the City of Toronto and United Way of Greater Toronto.

The Strong Neighbourhoods Task Force will:
  • build an action plan for strong neighbourhoods in Toronto
  • address poverty, underemployment, integrating new immigrants and a critical lack of services
  • identify community investment models to leverage and coordinate resources from all three levels of government
  • develop tools to determine neighbourhood assets and challenges towards enhancing quality of life in our city
  • advocate for change
